Primate
Safaris
Step into the emerald heart of Africa. Witness the profound intelligence of our closest relatives in their natural habitat, from the gentle giants of the volcanic mountains to the playful chimp communities in the lush forest canopies.
Meet Our Kin
There is no silence quite like the emerald depths of an African rainforest, and no moment quite like your first eye-contact with a mountain gorilla. Our primate safaris are intimate, conservation-led expeditions that bring you face-to-face with these incredible species.
"To look into the eyes of a mountain gorilla is to see the reflection of something ancient, intelligent, and deeply familiar — a connection you will never forget."
Whether you are trekking through the misty slopes of Rwanda or the dense valleys of Uganda, every step is a gateway to understanding their complex social lives. We work closely with local ranger teams to provide respectful, sustainable access to these habitats.

The peak season. Best conditions for long hikes through Bwindi and the Volcanoes, with high trekking success rates and comfortable hiking temperatures.

Words From the Wild
The moment the silverback made eye contact with me, I forgot how to breathe. It was not fear - it was awe. Our guide positioned us perfectly and gave us time to simply sit and watch. Nothing in my life has compared.
We tracked chimpanzees through Kibale for four hours before finding the troop. When we finally sat among them, watching a mother groom her infant, we forgot we were even there. An out-of-body experience.
Kudu arranged everything flawlessly - permits, transfers, accommodation. All we had to do was show up and trek. The gorilla encounter was beyond words. I cried. My husband cried. Our guide said he sees it every day.

Gorilla trekking can range from a gentle 30-minute walk to a challenging 5-hour hike through steep, dense forest. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended. Porters are available to carry your backpack and assist you along the trail.
The dry seasons (June to September and December to February) offer the most accessible trekking conditions with less mud and clearer trails. However, primates can be tracked year-round, and the wet season brings lush landscapes and fewer crowds.
Yes, primate safaris pair beautifully with classic game viewing. Popular combinations include Rwanda gorillas + Serengeti safari, Uganda chimpanzees + Big Five game drives, or Kenya wildlife + gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
Yellow fever vaccination is required for entry into both Uganda and Rwanda. We recommend consulting your travel health clinic for advice on hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus, and malaria prophylaxis at least 6 weeks before travel.
Gorilla trekking groups are limited to 8 people per habituated family. This ensures a minimal-impact experience and allows each guest ample time with the gorillas. Chimpanzee tracking groups are typically limited to 6 participants.
