7+Years in East Africa
Our Story

Born From a Belief That Every Safari Should Feel Personal

Kudu Untamed Safaris was founded on a simple conviction — that the best safari is not the one chosen from a catalogue, but the one designed entirely around you. We started in Nairobi in 2018, driven by a frustration with the cookie-cutter itineraries dominating the industry.

East Africa is not a destination you can mass-produce. The Maasai Mara at dawn, the rainforest silence before the gorillas emerge, the vast stillness of the Serengeti at night — these are experiences that deserve thoughtful, personal planning by people who genuinely know and love this part of the world.

Today, our team of locally-based specialists has guided over 1,200 travellers from around the world. We have walked the parks, stayed in the camps, and built the relationships that allow us to open doors most operators simply cannot. Every itinerary we create begins with listening, and ends with a journey that feels unmistakably yours.

The Kudu Difference

What Makes Us Different

We are not a booking platform. We are not a fixed-tour operator. We are East Africa safari specialists who happen to call this region home.

Locally Based

Our team is based in Nairobi. We don't sell East Africa from overseas — we live here, travel here, and know the difference between what looks good on paper and what is truly exceptional on the ground.

Tailor-Made Itineraries

Every safari we create is built from scratch. No fixed packages, no group itineraries repurposed with your name on them. Your journey reflects your interests, pace, budget and travel style — nothing less.

Honest Advice

We tell you what is worth the price and what is not. If a lodge does not match the hype, we say so. If the timing of your trip is off for the wildlife you want to see, we will say that too.

Personally Tested Lodges

We only recommend properties we have visited ourselves. Every camp and lodge in our network has been assessed for wildlife access, guiding quality, service and value — so you do not have to take a gamble.

Private Expert Guides

Your safari is guided by hand-selected naturalists with deep field expertise in their regions. They are not just drivers — they are storytellers, trackers and interpreters of the wild.

Support Before, During & After

From your first enquiry through to the moment you arrive home, our team is reachable and responsive. When you are in the bush, you are never truly alone.

Our Responsibility

Travel That Gives Back

We believe great safaris and responsible travel are inseparable. East Africa's wildlife and communities deserve more than visitors — they deserve advocates.

Wildlife Conservation

A portion of every safari we book contributes to wildlife conservancies and anti-poaching initiatives across Kenya and Tanzania. We actively support conservation partners in the Mara ecosystem and beyond.

Local Community Benefit

We prioritise camps and lodges that employ locally, source food regionally and invest meaningfully in the communities surrounding the parks — not as a checkbox, but as a condition of partnership.

Respecting Wildlife & Cultures

Our guides follow strict protocols around wildlife distance and vehicle conduct. We approach every cultural encounter with genuine respect — never as a performance, always as an invitation.

Sustainable Travel Choices

We advise clients on lower-footprint options where available — from smaller camps to fly-in routes that reduce road pressure in sensitive ecosystems — without compromising on experience.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Things people often wonder when planning their first safari with us.

Yes — our team is based in Nairobi, Kenya. We are not an overseas operator reselling East African safari products. We live here, travel here regularly, and have first-hand relationships with the lodges, guides and communities across the region.

Every itinerary we create is built from scratch around you. We do not offer fixed packages or group tours. From destinations and duration to lodge tier, activities and pace — every detail is tailored to your specific preferences and budget.

Absolutely. We work across the full spectrum from comfortable mid-range camps to the most exclusive private conservancy lodges in East Africa. We will be honest about which properties represent genuine value at each level — not just the ones with the largest margins.

Yes, and we love doing it. Solo safaris are some of the most rewarding journeys we plan. We advise on single supplement strategies, group departure options where preferred, and ensure solo travellers have exactly the same quality of experience as groups.

Yes. Most itineraries can be secured with a deposit, with the balance due closer to travel. We will lay out a clear payment schedule when we send your final itinerary — no hidden instalment fees, no surprises.

Yes — gorilla trekking in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is one of our most popular specialisations. We secure the permits, arrange expert guides and pair the experience with the best nearby lodges. It is one of the most extraordinary wildlife encounters on earth, and we take great care to plan it properly.
