Your 12-Day Journey
From your arrival in Kigali to your last sunset on Zanzibar -- every day is paced for romance, balancing a profound wildlife encounter with plenty of downtime to relax together.

Arrival and Welcome to Rwanda
Land in Kigali, the Land of a Thousand Hills, where your guide welcomes you for the start of your honeymoon adventure. Settle into your hotel, enjoy a relaxed evening, and receive a full briefing ahead of tomorrow's drive to Volcanoes National Park.

Scenic Drive Through the Land of a Thousand Hills
A scenic drive north through Rwanda's terraced hillsides and tea plantations brings you to the foothills of the Virunga volcanoes. Check into your honeymoon lodge with sweeping views of the peaks, and rest ahead of tomorrow's gorilla trek.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking, Together
The heart of your honeymoon. Set out with an expert tracker into the misty forest to find one of Rwanda's habituated gorilla families, culminating in an unforgettable hour spent in the presence of these gentle giants. An experience you will remember for the rest of your lives together.

Golden Monkeys and a Private Candlelit Dinner
A lighter morning trek through the bamboo forest in search of Rwanda's playful, endangered golden monkeys, followed by a free afternoon to relax at the lodge. As evening falls, enjoy a private candlelit dinner set beneath the stars with the volcanoes silhouetted behind you.

Farewell to the Volcanoes, Onward to the Island
Drive back to Kigali for your flight to Zanzibar, connecting via Nairobi or Dar es Salaam. Touch down on the island by evening and transfer to your beachfront suite, ready to trade misty forests for warm ocean breezes.

Sunset Dhow Cruise and Snorkelling
Set sail on a traditional wooden dhow along the coastline, stopping to snorkel over shallow coral gardens teeming with colourful reef fish. As the sun dips over the ocean, sip chilled drinks on deck for one of the most romantic sunsets of the trip.

Spice Tour and Spa Day
Spend the morning on an optional guided spice plantation tour through Zanzibar's fragrant clove, vanilla and cinnamon groves, then unwind with a couples' spa treatment overlooking the ocean in the afternoon.
Stone Town Heritage Tour
Explore the winding alleys, carved doorways and bustling markets of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site steeped in centuries of Swahili, Arab and colonial history, before returning to the beach for a relaxed afternoon.

Full Day at Leisure on the Sand
A day entirely at your own pace -- sink into the white sand, take a dip in the resort pool, or simply relax under a palm-thatched umbrella together. No plans, just each other and the ocean.

Mnemba Atoll Snorkelling Excursion
Boat out to the pristine waters surrounding Mnemba Atoll, one of the best snorkelling spots in the Indian Ocean, to swim alongside vibrant coral reefs, turtles and tropical fish before a beachside seafood lunch.

Final Full Day and Farewell Dinner
One last morning to swim, sunbathe or simply do nothing at all. In the evening, celebrate the end of an extraordinary honeymoon with a private beachfront farewell dinner under the stars.

Final Morning and Departure
Enjoy a final relaxed breakfast overlooking the ocean before your transfer to Zanzibar airport for your onward or international flight home, carrying a lifetime of honeymoon memories from misty volcanoes to island shores.

What Our Guests Say

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often.
Yes. This itinerary is designed for couples, and our Signature Luxury and Ultra-Luxury tiers include a private vehicle and guide throughout Rwanda, so you won't be sharing your transfers with other travellers. Gorilla treks are conducted in small groups of up to eight people as set by the Rwanda Development Board, regardless of tier.
On Day 5 you drive back to Kigali and fly to Zanzibar, typically connecting via Nairobi or Dar es Salaam. The full journey takes around half a day including transfers. Our team handles all connections, visas and border logistics so every leg is fully assisted.
Your applicable gorilla trekking permit (customer-paid at the Rwanda Development Board authority rate) is confirmed at quotation. The trek itself can range from a one-hour walk to a full day of hiking through steep, muddy terrain depending on where the gorilla family is that morning, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. Porters are available to carry bags and assist on the trail.
For gorilla trekking, pack sturdy waterproof hiking boots, long trousers and long sleeves (the forest is thick with nettles and thorns), gardening gloves, a warm layer, and a rain jacket, as Volcanoes National Park can be wet and cool year-round. For Zanzibar, bring swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, and light beachwear. A small daypack for the trek and a soft-sided bag for the flights are both useful.
No formal proof is required, though letting your lodge and resort know it's your honeymoon in advance means they can prepare special touches such as room upgrades, champagne, or a private dinner setup where available.
Absolutely. We regularly extend this honeymoon itinerary with additional nights at Lake Kivu, a chimpanzee-tracking stop in Nyungwe Forest, or a Kenyan safari before Rwanda. Speak to our specialists about tailoring your trip.
